A powerful September nor'easter brought severe weather, flooding, high winds, and widespread disruption across the East Coast. For property managers, storms like these are more than a weather event—they're a reminder of how important preparation, communication, and strong vendor relationships are when a community needs help most.
When damage happens across an entire area at once, contractors are suddenly in high demand. Established relationships with trusted vendors can make a major difference. From downed trees and roofing damage to broken windows and urgent work orders, property managers help coordinate the response, communicate with residents, and keep repairs moving when there are countless competing priorities.
FROM THE FIELD
A New Property Manager's Point of View

For our new Property Manager at Villages at Berkley, the reality of property management came quickly. While still learning the role, he was suddenly helping coordinate Diamond Roofing, Apex Tree Service, and 007 Exteriors, managing incoming work orders, following up on resident concerns, and continuing his training with support from the SoJay team.
It wasn't exactly a quiet first week—but it provided a firsthand look at what property management is really about: staying organized, adapting quickly, communicating clearly, and being there when a community needs you most.
The SoJay Takeaway
Natural disasters are unpredictable. Your response to them shouldn't be.
Having an experienced property management team means having established processes, vendor relationships, and people ready to coordinate when the unexpected happens.
Sometimes the value of property management becomes clearest when the weather is at its worst.
